Once home to some of the most abundant oyster reefs on earth, the Gulf of America has seen its native oyster populations pushed to the brink by overharvesting, habitat destruction, pollution, and powerful storms. What was once the heartbeat of coastal ecosystems and Southern heritage now faces an uncertain future.

Through shell recycling, reef restoration, education, and community action, the Gulf Oyster Movement is leading the charge to rebuild the wild oyster reefs that once protected and nourished our coastlines. Every shell recovered becomes the foundation for new life, returning to Gulf waters to create habitat, improve water quality, defend shorelines from erosion, and revive one of the South’s most iconic species.
